Supported Devices

The fingerprint reader on my Lenovo Thinkpad R did work in Ubuntu Be aware this PPA includes non-free software as indicated in wuthentec About page of the project. Clearly this is not the case for the T I learned this to my cost when Creative stopped supporting the Hollywood DXR3 card - it was a cracking bit of hardware, but Creative decided that they didn't care about pissing off customers who had Windows XP.

I realise that Linux is currently a niche OS - but lack of open software support is a serious omission from any hardware manufacturer. I installed from the ppa, so I'd most likely have the newest built already. Some are just scanners, others do the recognition in the device itself. I don't think I was missing your point. The reader works in Windows10 without problems.

Overall Status

AES fingerprint reader not recognized. So unless a big corporate suddenly decides it has to fund Canonical to have the driver, Canonical will have to fund the project internally or it will never happen.

Or will it be always on and power draining like some other usb devices?

However, switching to an external Monitor which has for example x does not work flawless. Equal or bigger monitors are working properly.

Perhaps there's still sb autgentec there that has it and can confirm this a bug. We still need to finalize the related discussions with our legal team regarding NDA requirement for the particular developers and clarify all remaining concerns.

lifprint — Supported Devices

If you're a developer and want to participate in the effort I would suggest to get involved via the fprint community. Confirming that the libfprint does support this device so if it is not working then there is a bug somewhere.

You should build updated libfprint package and install it into system. Duplicates of this bug Bug Bug That is my point, Canonical should limux this so that the hardware works out of the box under Ubuntu Natty. Linux support for AES devices is not yet available.
